black screen with blinking cursor when booting winxp after fresh lucid install

i tried sudo upgrade-grub. no joy.

so i'm seriously considering tossing in the towel. i'm not going to have my weekend ruined by a lame OS!

on the up side: i do have a perfectly fine OS :)

and so pretty soon it's going to be: goodbye windows! :)

btw: there's no way i'm going to dump ubuntu :)

and no i'm not unhappy with lucid either. i just love it.

guess so. never mind. i due course i will find out how free 40 gb of winxp partition. hopefully this will not require a fresh lucid install.

actually i have little need for winxp anymore.

sudo apt-get install gparted You can clear it then decide a mount point for it. I highly recommend backing up your files first though

thank you. i will do so at leisure. no hurry though. not with that new 1TB hard disk i installed recently.
