I'm getting REALLY slow transfer rates when I download packages through the terminal. Right now i'm having a download rate of 10kb/s

Does anyone know why this happens? If so, do you have a solution for my problem?

Please help.
It is taking me forever to install things.

I would suspect that the solution will be to wait - everyone will be using the repos at the moment.

It might be worth checking that you are using the fastest available server for you - System - ADmin - Software Sources - first tab - Download From -= choose other and you can select best server.

But - I think that it is just the amount of people using the servers.

I'm just making a guess since I don't know how servers and mirrors are configured, but I suspect the slow download times you are experiencing could be due to high server load because of the 10.04 release and everybody tweaking, etc. all at once. If that is the case, things should improve in the next few days as demand eases.

Just a guess.

One of the reasons a few doesn't upgrade right after the ISO's have been published :)
Finding a server ( mirror ) which isn't overloaded would fix the problem.
