i just got a hold of a server that i want to put ubuntu 10.04 on. i have an 8.04 CD and everything works fine when i start that. when i boot off of 10.04 it goes to language setting then main menu and when i hit install the screen goes black except for a cursor top-left and it waits for 3 minutes then says "udevadm settle - timeout of 180 seconds reached, the event que contains: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0f.1/host0/target0:0:0/0:0:0:0/block/sr0 Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!" and then it just sits there forever.

its got a pentium 3 and its got 2 CPUs which are i686

help :)

I have the same error.

I will add that my caps lock and scroll lock lights are blinking in unison and ctrl-alt-del does not work. I must do a hardboot with the power button.

I'm trying to load this on one of these, http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/supportsite.wss/docdisplay?lndocid=MIGR-58449&brandind=5000008

Perhaps you should stick with 8.04 as it's proven and stable. It'll still be supported for a couple of years on the server as well. Wait for 10.04 to settle a little before you go throwing it on old hardware like that.

Not trying to ignore or belittle your problem, I just found some issues with 10.04 and am considering going back to 8.04 because of them.
