I have a Dell Studio 1555 with ATI 4570. Several months ago I got things working well in Karmic using xorg-driver-fglrx and fglrx-amdcccle along with noapic on my grub line. I just did a fresh install of the official release of Lucid and some of the same problems are back. I've tried open-source drivers and the fglrx drivers using apt-get. The best I get is with the fglrx drivers... with those it will manually suspend and wake, but it won't recognize lid closure as a suspend event.
