Hello,
I remember hearing that Ubuntu will come with an experimental open source graphics card driver (I'm not sure maybe it was Fedora) called nouveau but when I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and tried to enable desktop effects, it said that I have to install proprietary drivers. So I installed the NVIDIA (current) but now the purple loading screens I get when opening and closing my computer are very ugly/low resolution compared to when I haven't installed the proprietary drivers.
My first question is, if this is a bug. Second question is if Ubuntu 10.04 really comes with an open driver by default, and if yes then why can't I enable the effects with it.
Note: I'm using 64-Bit, currently, but this problem was also present in 32-Bit Beta 2.
