hey there

well for:

Q1) you can use gtk-recordmydesktop or recorditnow to do screencasts (these are frontends to recordmydesktop). both are in the repos and there are many youtube videos on using them. it's not flash, but if you can get the flash working on your system you can record it for a presentation. it saves in ogv format, but that can be converted to whatever format/codec you want.

Q2) google nagios-it is a complete monitoring system for administrators. its scope is tooooo big for one post on how to use it. but it is the best. there are dummy/how-to books on how to use it.

Q3) google csm-once you get a good website up/built there are several plugins you can enable a forum. again choosing your csm and getting a website up and running is beyond this post. heck you could even use forum plug-ins with wordpress or joomla to name 2 off the top of my head.

Q4) well i googled 'academic software linux' and the first hit seems to fit the bill for you there. post back if it doesn't:

both forums and google are your friends...post back if there are any questions/comments.

have fun
