I recently installed StarCraft using Wine, it starts but it runs slow and is laggy. My computer is pretty old, and not so good:
400MHz Intel P2
128MB RAM
ATI Rage Pro Turbo (Some crappy integrated card)

Maybe my computer is too slow for StarCraft on Linux?

I experienced this problem with a lot of newer computers as well (including an amd64 with a gig of ram). The only way I could get to fix it was by running nice -n20 wine starcraft.exe

I know that's incredibly hack-ish but hopefully it helps.

the nice command helps a lot, and also I am able to play on battle.net just fine, however its is kinda hard to navigate the main screens of bnet, cuz of the repainting problem, but you can get by esp. if you know where to click/keyboard shortcuts.
