This thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1464393), entitled "Microsoft makes HTC pay to use android", was locked citing inaccuracy in the thread's title. However, Microsoft's announcement (http://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/press/2010/apr10/04-27MSHTCPR.mspx) of the arrangement suggests that the title is indeed accurate (see following excerpt).
Microsoft Corp. and HTC Corp. have signed a patent agreement that provides broad coverage under Microsoft’s patent portfolio for HTC’s mobile phones running the Android mobile platform. Under the terms of the agreement, Microsoft will receive royalties from HTC.
