After I installed 9.0.4 I started it up and my screen flickers and goes black every few seconds. I can't seem to stop that

Hp Dual Core 4200
3 gigs of Ram
WD 500 HDD Sata 7200
Radeon 4350 HD video card 512 Ram

I'm Hoping this can be remedied easily

Thank you

Hey, is this your first Ubuntu install? I was having similar problems with 9.10 on my MSI netbook. It was fixed with a bios update, but I also hear the problem has been fixed in 10.04.

Have you tried any different versions of Ubuntu? It may be a hardware problem that is fixable if you tinker with 9.04, but more easily fixable on a newer version of ubuntu.

Yes, I am new to Ubuntu. I'll check out the beta version and see what happens

Thanks for your help

Cool, give it a go. It may not work of course so try booting from a CD or USB first.

I forgot to mention I did the live CD before the install and it did the same thing with 9.0.4

I will do the live CD with the beta version for sure

Thanks again for your help

I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 and almost everything is working well. However I cannot get Java to work I've installed the "Open JDK 6 Runtime and the "Iced Tea Java Plugin" and it still will not work. When I click on a game to open it starts to load and stops.

There must be some way to do this.

I am a new user to Ubuntu and I've read where you can go into the terminal to fix Java, but I have no clue in there. I would like to have an easy to understand way to fix Java in the terminal
