Hi,
I have Ubuntu 9.10 on HP Compaq Presario v6000. It's been working fine with a bit trouble lately... but now that I've disassembled it and reassembled it back (I wanted to fix a noise that has been reoccurring in the past months) it's working even more slowly. It mainly causes applications to open up superslow and freezing with the black-n-white screen.

Is there a way to test whether the problem is with Ubuntu or with something gone wrong during the disassembly/reassembly of the laptop?

Thanks!

I would suspect overheating.
Did you disturb the heatsink or fan?

Hi,
is there any way to test if it's overheating? But no, didn't have much contact with the fan area since I didn't diassemble it that far...
