@lisati: depends, many get hurt by drinking it at nonoptimal temperatures.
@wilee: Um, that depends on what type of alternate universe it is. It could be: 1, a complete parrallel in which the answer is yes; 2, a desrever universe, yes; 3, a d!$〒0r〒ëd universe has broccoli instead of trees.

Have you ever ROFLed?
JayRobert
April 30th, 2010, 02:13 AM
Yes, the finale to a game of "water glum." (The rules are simple: one person is "glum," the others try to make him or her laugh. They cannot touch the glum person, but other than that, anything goes. When the "glum" person laughs, the person who made him laugh becomes the "glum" one.)
(It became "water glum" due to the inevitable arguments over whether a person actually laughed or only snickered (sniggered for you brits), smiled, etc. - the "glum" person holds a mouthful of water; if any leaks (or sprays), he is obviously not glum.)
(I was glum one night in LA and there were six or seven professional comedians in the house.)
@jetsam, for your philosophical craving: why do people laugh?

Are SSDs [besides 128mb ones in DSis] expensive?
JayRobert
May 1st, 2010, 01:13 AM
Yes, but they're coming down in price slowly. In a year or two, they'll be reasonable, I think. I have a 40GB SSD for everything but /home; that's on three 640 GB opticals in 1.3TB RAID5.
For $4400 you can get a 1TB SSD with r/w of 1.4Gb/s. Compared to a 1TB Western Digital for $110, or a 2TB Seagate for $250, both at 6Gb/s, the SSDs aren't quite competitive yet. (Just think - a 40-disk, 40TB array at 4x the speed (each!) for the price of 1TB of SSD. Plus an extra large case, of course. Herh herh herh.)

Yes. I've been trying to figure out a low power file server for so long that it's ridiculous. I have too many options and not much imperative to get it done, so I just chew the problem over once a month or so and note how much better low power systems are getting.
TPBM knows that fridge, stove, hvac, water heater, and insulation far outweigh electronics in total impact on power consumption in the average home.
JayRobert
May 2nd, 2010, 12:18 AM
True. My power bill went up less than 10% after I started running this power hog (125 W AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE, plus 4 hard drives, all stuffed into a Thermaltake case with about 17 fans) - compared to no PC at all prior to that. The A/C bill kills me in the summer.

Actually, I've never taken to using them under Ubuntu, though I can't explain why not since I like keyboard shortcuts. Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V are about it.
I like Super + E, Super + R, and Super + M under windows, plus Ctrl + Shift + Escape to bring up Task Mangler.
Aaah! You are supposed to ask a question for the next person.
Have you reinstalled this month?
