And it looks like someone chopped off the head of a fat yellow bird, and put on the body of a fat silver fish. It's really freaky looking, anyone know what it might be?

No need, the description says it all.

Wait...

Did you mean to type "So we got a new fish.......?"

Because that would definitely clear things up for me.

Look like a gold fish to me or somewhat cross bred between a fish and a parrot.

Wow that's whack!

Maybe inbreeding between fish and bird? O_o

Judging by the pictures, it kind of looks like a lion-head oranda. A kind of gold fish.

Yep! Look like a cross bred fish and the head look like a parrot too. Something suspicious. Anyway in my country it was know as Flower horn fish also know as Luo Hon in Chinese. Its quite popular here in Malaysia especially among the Chinese. Some of this fish could fetch a very high price. Here's the link and have a look. Does it look like the one in your pics?

Looks Cool !!

A quick search indicates it may be a "Buffalo Head Goldfish" thats the common name.

It's looking like a fancy goldfish to me. Hard to tell by your photos, but it looks to be the Oranda type. I could be wrong though.

Also.. don't try the goldfish like crap by putting it a bowl lol. They can live up to 30 years under good care, and they can get quite big. They make a LOT of mess and require a lot of filtration in a large tank, and they need lots of water changes. If you are planning on plopping it in a bowl, or in another aquarium, I recommend you give it to somebody with more space/time to care for it. It's such a shame that people treat goldfish as creatures that should live in a tiny, crappy bowl and only live a few weeks.

I'm a fishkeeper/breeder if you're wondering :)

Good luck!

Edit: from the looks of your pictures, it seems to be in an aquarium. I'd be very careful if I were you, because goldfish LOVE to eat live plants and can get a bit pushy and controlling to smaller fish during feeding. Not to mention they make gallons of mess.

Names fascinate me, and naming animals is a very deep topic. Your name...

Never mind.

I ain't gonna say it, but that's a nice fish.
