View Full Version : Navigation software for someone with no car, is that sane?

I will be back to Nordic countries in June, I am wondering whether the navigation software like navigon are useful for me or not.
I will either walk or use public transport during my stay in Sweden and Norway.
PS: I have an Android phone :D

Why wouldn't it be? I've used GPS for years in the backcountry for hiking and canoeing. Never get lost again.

I quite often use the gps on my phone while walking. It helps while taking a bus too if you're unfamiliar with the area so you know where to get off.
I use google maps for this, so I suppose it should be quite easy to get on your Android phone!

It makes as much sense as carrying the old-fashioned, low-tech map with you i.e. lots, in my opinion.

nah, those old fashion maps really cane the battery's
only work for like 80min's then your lost

I wonder where I can buy batteries for my maps then. :)
I have been known to carry a screenshot or two from a Google map when going to a new and unfamiliar place.
I have a notion that the cost of GPS on my phone with my cellphone company would be prohibitive (in my circumstances, anyway).
