While I won't point at any specific web hosts, I will say to stick with the bigger names. Web hosts are constantly being created and going under. Also, 200mb is miniscule.

Actually, I will point to a source (only because it seems reliable, been around since 1998 ). Don't have to worry about space or bandwidth:

http://www.fatcow.com/fatcow/special-promo.bml

I have not used them though so can't speak from personal experience.

Reliable and dependable host! I'm using them and their domain registrar is TuCows!

I have my blog (http://lovinglinux.megabyet.net) hosted for free at http://megabyet.com and it works fine. It offers 2Gb space, 150 GB of bandwidth, cPanel, phpMyAdmin, MySQL, PHP, Fantastico and more.

If you just want a wordpress blog, Wordpress.com is utterly perfect. I've had my blog with them for quite a while, and love it. The hosting is free, with 3Gb of space on the free plan for photos etc. You can upgrade your account as needed. The uptime is great, and you don't need to work about upgrading you Wordpress install.

For other hosting, I've found to 000webhost (http://www.000webhost.com/) to be the best free solution, that I could find at least. 1.5Gb of storage, 100Gb of bandwidth, and quite a few other features. The member's area is very well put together, and support can be found through the forum. If you want more, you can get premium hosting for $5 a month. Uptime is great, it's never been down for me, and speed is great, never any lag, seeing as the free accounts are hosted on paid-for servers, so you don't get 3000 websites getting served from one machine ;)

I suggest you check them out, if you want to have complete control.

EDIT: They also have a very handy backup facility, both manual and automatic :)

Is back :)

To be fair, sometimes the site is a little bit slow, but most of the time it works perfectly fine. This is the best free hosting service I ever used, when you consider amount of space, bandwidth, features and administrative tools. If you don't want to spend money on a site, then this is really the best option in my opinion. By the way, I don't have any business with them, but I think they deserve the free publicity ;)

If all you want to do is host a blog, just use Wordpress.com

For all of the major features, they'll do it for you for free. If you pay them a little bit of money, you can get your own domain, more storage space, and custom CSS.

Pricing here:

If you really do want your own web host, though, I'd highly recommend ICDSoft, which I've been using for at least six years (don't remember exactly when I signed up):

I just received a response about this on their forum. It was a scheduled maintenance.

I thought I should post here. After going crazy with extremely slow connections and database errors for about a week, I decided to move away from megabyet. I'm not sure if the problem was their server capacity or the wordpress plugins I was using.

Anyway, I moved my sites (http://lovinglinuxblog.blogspot.com) to blogger.com and they are lightning fast now.
