View Full Version : [ubuntu] new graphic card support for apple users 10.4 LTS ?

I own an imac 7,1 with an radeon hd2400 graphics card. And also a macbook 4,1 with GMAX3100 graphics card. Will the new release support 3d enabling with these cards so I can run compiz and enjoy all the cool effects (CUBE,wobble,etc)?

Or is there workarounds in any of the other previous ubuntu releases which would allow advanced desktop effects to be enabled with these graphic cards?

Ive seen a coupe vids out there where older releases appear to run compiz but im not sure which version macbook it is(linked). I wish Apple's hardware was comparable to it's design :rolleyes:

Well I booted from a live cd and can get compiz and cairo dock to work pretty good! It works on both machines mentioned and I will post a video later. I'm just hoping it still works when I partition and try to install 10.04 ( which is beautiful BTW ). Any input is greatly appreciated !:guitar:

Here it is. imac 7,1 using compiz and cairo dock, also running cheese and the webcam works out of the box! This is a live boot, so Im wondering If I'll have the same success when I install the operating system.

Normally if it works with the Live CD, it should work once it is installed. If it doesn't work with the Live CD, then there is a good chance it will still not work when installed. Some hardware requires extensive tweaking to work properly. I'm glad it works with the Live CD in your case.

With the macbook 4,1 cube effects, wobble, and cairo dock work during live boot and sound works out of the box. No webcam though :o
