Hey people,
Now I'm not too clued up about networking and IP addresses. However, I know that I have an IP address for my router (which is dynamic) and then all of my machines have internal address e.g.

192.168.0.2
192.168.0.3
etc...

My server, had the internal address of 192.168.0.4 but now has changed to 192.168.0.7

what causes this to happen?

Any help is appreciated, its frustrating as I have to change my port forwarding on my router to allow access to my server from outside my network.

P.S:
Sorry if the term 'internal address' is not the right term, corrections also appreciated.

"Internal address" is a good term which helps us know what you're talking about.

The thing about dynamic addresses is that they're not permanent, and can change. If you want your server to have the same address all the time, you might need to set up a static address instead of a dynamic address. My preference is to do that with my router, which has an option "use same address" when I'm looking at the information for one of the devices attached to it.

Wikipedia has an article on IP addresses here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address

Thanks for the reply and the article.
I have found the settings for that on my router under "Reserve Address".
thanks again!
