Hello all, I've installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my 17" 5,2 Macbook Pro unibody, and have worked out most of the bugs. But a few questions remain unsolved. On my OS X partition, if I have 50% battery life, I get at least 4 or 5 hours of use out of it, but when running Ubuntu it usually says somewhere around 1 hour and 45 minutes. I'm guessing there is a way to improve this? I followed most of the stuff on the Install wiki for my setup, but would like to get this figured out.

Also, Compiz and Emerald, I have them installed and set to run on startup, which works fine, but the effects don't take place until I right click on the icon and select Compiz under the "Select Window Manager." It's kind of annoying, but not really a problem.

Please help me work out my bugs, I look forward to becoming a regular Ubuntu user and appreciate all the help offered.

Thanks,
Lucas

Regarding the power issue, , ? Sorry I can't help.

Regarding Compiz, have you selected "extra" under the "effects" tab in "appearance"? If not, select "extra" and then close, and restart. This may help.

It was set at custom, but I changed it to extra and restarted but still no go. I do have the effects, Compiz and Emerald run fine, but in order for me to initialize them and get them running I have to select Compiz as my window manager every time. I just want the effects to be default upon startup without having to enable them each time.
