what kind of audio? Like a file or streaming? Couldn't you just mount a share and play it through the second box?

AFAIK, though I never tried, you can reroute all audio over the network, and keep audio in sync, play on several PCs simultaneous if you want, all just using Pulseaudio. Its one of its core features.
