Well, I never tried to boot the Xubuntu liveCD myself on a Pismo G3/400. What a nightmare. I have to mention that I booted from USB as the iso is too big to put on a CD. Whatever option I try and whatever xorg.conf I try, it won't give me X. So I guess this is a dead end. I am going to try the alternate installer. That should work...It was a piece of cake to get the Debian live CD to boot by the way...
If anyone knows how to boot the Xubuntu LiveCD on a Pismo, I'll be grateful to know how.

You might find that crunchbang is a better choice for you.

I haven't had a lot of luck with Xubuntu on the PPC. I got it running great on an older P2 laptop that my father uses. I tried it first on my iBook G3. I couldn't get xwindows to load. All I could get was a black screen with a mouse pointer & nothing more. I had a lot more luck using ubuntu 9.10 & debian lenny.

I recently install Xubuntu 9.10 on my PowerBook G4 to get away from the GNOME bloat. Unfortunately, Firefox and Thunderbird have their own versions of bloat. :(
All of the Desktop versions of Ubuntu from 7.xx onward did not fit onto one CD; you have to use the Alternative CD instead. Or you could boot from USB drive (see attached). Note: this may not work on some G3s; they can only run Open Firmware via an external terminal.

Hi Linuxopjemac, I'm sure you will have considered this option already but I thought I'd let you know:
I used the Ubuntu 9.10 Live Cd to install on my G3 iMac then installed Xubuntu and removed Gnome etc with the commands listed here:

I had to over-burn the live CD to fit it on a disk. I also tried Fedora 12 PPC, but that would hang during boot each time.
P.s I have been finding your website very useful!
