Hey, everybody! First post, first problem.
I recently comissioned an AMD 64 3700+-based computer sitting atop a Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI motherboard with an ATI All-In-Wonder 2006 PCIe card. The monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 930B and I'm running an AMD64-generic build of Ubuntu 5.1.
With all that said, X has never booted. Ever. I have no idea what's going on, but now that I've followed the wiki for installing ATI components, I get the error message that "no screen found". Repeatedly when attempting to use "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" it appears to misunderstand all interpretations of "Samsung SyncMaster 930B." It seems to find nothing better than "generic monitor" through autoseeking, or what the reconfig program refers to autoseek as ...
I've gone through the Ubuntu Wiki's instructions in /BinaryDriverHowto/ATI (part one, as X simply won't load to install the proprietary driver) I'm working with the command line only, and so far I've had no luck. I really want to get on board with this excellent distro, and so far can't. Does anyone have some suggestions? Please?
