View Full Version : [xubuntu] Old laptop freezes at shut off

I'm absolutely green with linux systems, but I tried to reactivate an old laptop (1.2Mhz, 250MB RAM, 30GB disk).

Installation of Xubuntu went fine, but graphics seem to be quite slow, i.e. closing a box and restoring the background is like in the early 90ies - but that's not the point now.

I can't shut down propperly: When starting the shut down or restart sequence the routine hangs at saying:
______________________
ubuntu 9.1 computers name tty1
computersname login: [ 67.154593] System halted.
______________________

The only way to kill the machine is to plug off power and to pull out battery. Not any input key is working anymore.

Any idea from the experienced folks?

Best thanks, jorkom
