Have a look in the "User CP", " Edit options".

It gives you this option:
When sending private messages the forum can make a copy of the message in your Sent Items folder.
Turn the option on and it will save your sent messages.

thank you for the information and the help but really this thing should be marked by default i really don't have the time to start going over every tiny option in every forum i'm register in and i think that if there is a sent items box it should be set by default that it would actually work the way it should work.

I guess it's not really a choice ubuntuforums made. I'm registered to more vBulletin boards and as I remember well, it was off everywhere by default.

as far as i can remember i never had to mark such an option by default if i sent private message to someone i can see it the the sent items box and it's also make sense don't you think so?

Well, there's something to save those messages by default, no question about it.
There's also something to not save them by default. Every message has to be stored in a database, and there's a maximum number of message a user is allowed to store.

I guess vBulletin chose not to save them by default, because of the storage, but also understands that users want to save their sent messages, so built the option to do so.

As for me: the first thing I do when I register is go through the options, as there are a few default options I change after I register.

i do the same thing but i don't always to really go over every tiny option you need to mark there if the owner of the site have a problem with database they should set lower number of saved messages not disable it by default and let only those who can to fix it by them self it really not a way to do things as far as i see it.

As I said, I think it's a default choice of vBulletin, not a default choice of the ubuntuforums staff/sysadmins.

And I guess it has nothing to do with a database problem, only with not storing anything that doesn't need to be stored. Something I can understand, as a non-professional PHP-programmer myself. Although I guess I would have set it on by default, as I like it on by default myself ;)

Let's hope someone would see this thread and fix it for future users.
