Free as in beer is cool but if I lose free as in MINE to add, remove, and alter, I'M GONE. Hopefully you will all follow me outta here.

I do not believe it. My father got rickrolled two days ago; pranks are out early.

Looks legit.

The only part of the article that looks legit is the sentence at the end:

Happy April Fools Day Folks!

So you read a blatantly unbelievable article that ends with a statement like that, and you think it "looks legit". Crazeee...

lol the 'memo' looks terribly fake as it is, even with out the "April fools" line at the bottom

Microsoft Interested In Buying Canonical (http://techie-buzz.com/foss/microsoft-interested-in-buying-canonical.html)

According to a leaked company memo, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is reportedly interested in buying Canonical, the company behind the popular Linux Distro Ubuntu.

Time to rally the troops...This news needs a pre-emptive strike!

Canonical is privately held, so no one can acquire it unless its owners agree to sell. I think it's an entirely fair question as to whether this will eventually happen. But if Microsoft tries, I think they will at least need to pay far more than market value for it. (And with that money, a "new Canonical" could be founded, for example.)

Actually, look at the bottom of the article. In big friendly letters:

Happy April Fools Day Folks!

'South African company'?

And it was almost convincing too ;)

Though if it were me, I would have said they wanted to buy Novell. Now there's a truly epic (and uncomfortably plausible) April Fool's Joke :p
