I have a serious general question. I have been using Linux for two years, currently Karmic Koala. I have had several problems, currently and in the past. I have looked for help in every place I can find. I have spent hours on forums, researching and just trying to learn. I have noticed that I have never seen a problem posted by anyone that recieved a useful answer, I have never seen a bug that was "fixed". This lead me to try and find a problem of any kind that was actualy "fixed". I have yet to find one.
The only posted problems that were declared "Solved" were, the original poster fixed the problem himself, or just quit posting and then someone declared the problem as solved.
I have screwed up a lot, by doing what someone told me to do, but I have never been helped.
If you have ever had a problem solved (it doesn't matter what the problem is) by someone on any forum, or Ubuntu help, or anywhere on line please post a link to it so I can read it. I want to see what it looks like.
Please, this is not a slam of Ubuntu. I really want to know if there is help out there, and where can I find it?

You have been a forum member for about a year and a half. In that time, you posted one support thread in which you had multiple people assisting you with good information and a clear give and take conversation that was kind, helpful, and all seemed well in December 2008. Since then, you have not posted a single question, not in a thread of your own or in someone else's thread on a topic that you were investigating.

The only things you have posted since have been two complaint threads about Ubuntu.

(Gently spoken and kindly intended) I really don't think you have participated in a way that qualifies you to make these sorts of judgments. I do sincerely hope that you find what you are looking for and would like to politely suggest that you will do that more easily by posting clear threads that ask for help.

2hot6ft2, I went to the link you provided; here is what I got.
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.
Matthew, The past post you mentioned is for the most part the reason for this post. I asked a question, I got several replies, asking me for more info. I never got an answer. The people that were asking for more info just quit responding. I asked where everyone had gone, and I was criticized for being too impatient.
This and some similar attempts made me quit asking, I mostly look through other questions and find one similar, (there are plenty)
So the count is 1 reply sent me to a bogus webpage, and 1 who criticized me for asking. I am not making a judgement of you or anyone or anything, I asked a question, and I ask it again, "where is the help?"

It wasn't a bogus website, the search session he linked to just expired is all, and I don't see matthew critizing you at all in his post.

I just did a search for a power management problem and it sent me to a post that sounds identical to mine. It is titled; "The last time you received help at these forums?" He recounts his frustrations at the non-help on these forums.
I read several replies to his post where they had received help, but none of them gave any specifics.
This was posted Dec. 2009
BTW I have no idea why a search for power management problems would send me to that post.

You may have better luck using Google to search for answers to your problems. try:

ubuntu site: power management

ssulaco; I read all the post in the link you provided. The thread is marked "solved" but I see nothing in the post that suggest the problem is solved. It appears to be an on-going problem, they are still suggesting things to try.

macoleman44:
I see where you say "ok that worked, but" you didn't say what the problem was in the first place. It looks like you fixed a problem and created another in fixing it.

The second is the same, I see where it works now but you don't say what the problem was.

The third; Yea!! A simple question, and a good answer. I stand corected!

The fourth: Again we come in, in the middle and leave before the end. I can't figure what you are talking about.

After 5 replies, I finally got the answer I ask for. macoleman 44 gave an example of someone listing a problem and asking for help, and someone actually helping solve the problem. My faith in the help system has been somewhat restored. One good answer in two years. I hope that ratio improves.
Thank you mcoleman44.

You are welcome. I thought if I gave you the page where the problem was solved you could do the work and find out what the problem was yourself by reading the previous posts.

But the problem on post 1 and 2 was this:
Hal was grabbing the touchscreen and stylus on startup. The solution was to stop hal from doing this and have the hid-ntrig module grab the devices.

There was a clear problem, and as seen on the pages I posted a clear solution. I believe that meets the requirements listed in you first post.

If you have ever had a problem solved (it doesn't matter what the problem is) by someone on any forum, or Ubuntu help, or anywhere on line please post a link to it so I can read it. I want to see what it looks like.
