Hi,

Still fairly new to Ubuntu here, but learning a lot. I've been running it on my IBM Thinkpad T40 laptop and am thinking about setting up a file server with Ubuntu, and also running my main home PC with it. I'm researching some power protection/backup solutions for the server, and am thinking about buying a UPS. However, I don't want to buy 2 UPS units for both home computers - I'd rather have just a single one with enough battery to power both. The only thing I'm not sure of is if there is a way to make the UPS shut down BOTH PCs. One PC (the server) would have the direct connection to the UPS, and the other would be connected via ethernet. Is there a way to setup a remote shutdown command to be sent to the other PC when the UPS triggers a shutdown on the server?

Thanks.

I have more interest than experience in this kind of hardware project... If the server were logged into the PC (or COULD) as admin (sudo rights) - it could (maybe?) run a "shutdown" command...
