Ive been wanting to play backgammon on the FIBS server for a while now. I love GNUBackgammon, but I dont think you can access FIBS with it.
There used to be a KBackgammon that accessed FIBS, part of the KDE games package, but I dont see it anymore, so I cant install it. I found what I *think* is an older version of kbackgammon called BacKgammon here...
http://backgammon.sourceforge.net/
... but cant seem to compile it. Any help out there would be appreciated!
Best case scenario would be to somehow connect GNUbackgammon to FIBS. :)

So i found an old version of "kbackgammon". Do a google search on "kbackgammon 3.5" to find an ubuntu deb of it. Looks like it was phased out of KDE a while back becuase it went un-maintained. Is there anything I can do to get it back in KDE?
The game works by installing libkdegames1, first. So you will have to find a deb of that too.
The game needs a lot of work. I'd like to work on it. How do I go about it? Contact the author? It appears unmaintained for over 2 years now.

If it's Open Source (check which license it have and which obligations is required), you can just fork it.

The grouping is an online backgammon server, which means, it is being used by another backgammon programs, created by whatever different developers, to play on. In fact one of the favourite ways of playing online backgammon is through Fibs. The grouping itself has no interface and the homepage is not likewise bounteous but on this server you can encounter whatever opponents, playing on a number of graphical interfaces. Each one with a different looks and whatever of them are free. Some are downloadable and whatever are drinkable applets . Some made for windows and whatever for Macintosh.

Hi, I am interesting to play Backgammon with FIBS (or some another reliable server) too. But it seems the kbackgammon is still unmaintained and then it does not appear in the newer distros after Hardy.
Similar situation is in debian there is still the kbackgammon in the oldstable lenny distro
http://packages.debian.org/lenny/kbackgammon
but the new stable Package:kdegames contains kbackgammon no more.
Did you make some steps forward?
I downloaded the old source package kdegames_3.5.10.orig.tar.gz (http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/pool/main/k/kdegames/kdegames_3.5.10.orig.tar.gz)
with the version backgammon 2.6.0
The author of kbackgammon is
Jens Hoefkens <jens@hoefkens.com>
Did you contact him?
If you will not receive any reply you may contact the Debain Qt/KDE maintainers
debian-qt-kde@lists.debian.org
Or do you play backgammon with any other sowtware on any other server?
