I've been looking a couple of days for a way to play rocks'n'diamods without freezing and working sound (yam yams with no sounds are no fun) and finally found a partial fix. Both problems are related to SDL and audio back-ends.

It wasn't that easy to find the solution, so I'm posting it here pro publico bono.
And BTW -- don't ever try the 'jue' version of r'n'd, it's ugly and inconsistent.
EDIT: the solution brings acceptable sound but fixes freezing only partially. The gameplay is still far worse than in Ubuntu 8.04 :\
