replacing xfwm with compiz in xubuntu

I would like to run compiz instead of xfwm in xubuntu (using xfce4).

I've replaced xfwm in /etc/xdf/xfce4/xinitrc with compiz --replace but every boot still uses xfwm.

How can i get compiz to be the default in xfce4?

all i had to do was save my session...duh.

this can be deleted i guess.
