View Full Version : [ubuntu] home dns server advantages?
March 27th, 2010, 01:31 AM
I am thinking about using an older computer to act as a dns server in my house (as opposed to using the router). Im just doing this for fun and the experience, but are there any major advantages to doing this?

Run your own domain names
Have your own internal domain names available to all your internal computers
Run a DNS cache ?

well, it lets me do all of my name res over dns for my internal net, rather than using broadcasts for samba, and dns for internet, etc, while still being able to seemlessly resolve internet addrs (by setting my forwarders to the isp or opendns).
