So I was wonder if there where any good RPGs that are Ubuntu friendly.

I've partitioned only 20 GB of my laptops hard drive for Ubuntu.

Here's the Specs:

HP Compaq Presario CQ60
Intel Celeron CPU
4 GB RAM
Mobile Intel 4 series express chipset family

RPG is a pretty broad genre. Could you be a bit more specific? Could you name some games that you have enjoyed in the past?

Planeshift looked cool, but I could never get it to install.

Well I should better say that I'm looking for a MMORPG.

I use to play WoW but got tired of it, and the same with GuildWars.

I did have a lot of fun with a game called Gates Of Anderon.

I don't think the OP is 5 years old.

I might be wrong or it might simply be my opinon but i thought wesnorth (might be mis-spelled) had the RPG crown in the Linux community. And it has a pretty strong online playing community.

...if "ubuntufriendly" also means "runs under wine" I would suggest:

Gothic1,Gothic2

Edit:
sorry,it is no MMORPG,ignore this post....but it is one of the greatest RPGs

i play runescape
Runescape is a good game
its not intensive as wow but but at least there is risk involved(when you die, you actually lose your stuff, not run to your corpse as a ghost...)
its a casual " you dont have to spend 5 hours in a dungeon just to die" plus the community is quite good

dont start on graphics anyone, gameplay is what matters in games

it can play on basically any hardware

any good RGP's like the older final fantasy's? or even Golden Sun or anything of the like? I have a bunch of ROMS but desmume and such are so choppy that gameplay is painful. Or does anyone have advice to get it to work better? either is appreciated.

Why not try Diablo II? It usually works fine in Wine, and is one of the greatest games of all time.

There's a couple that look cool on playdeb, couldn't be much easier to install than that!

http://www.playdeb.net/updates/Ubuntu/all/?category=MMORPG

But I didn't try any of these, not a big gamer, except if you consider mahjong and solitaire games...

All the spiderweb games work well in wine, the demos are a fair size to so you can test them before spending anything. There are several graphic versions of net hack which worked well on earlier versions of Ubuntu though I can't say how they perform on lucid as I'm waiting for "arhh please helps/ sorry it's a bug or that's the fault of the commercial types nothing can be done yet" to diminish some more as I just don't have the time for hacking this releace round. Falcons eye and Vultures eye were two that I enjoyed.
I've just put in Freedroid RPG and so far it looks interesting. One clever element is that one can kill enemies or take them over after which they fight for you. It looks like a game which can be played in many ways which is another plus.
DosBox works a treat and so all the abandon ware on sites like abandonia.com can be run in Ubuntu. Whilst I like good graphics and sound I rate gameplay higher so I still play the old dos games which were writen when gameplay had to be good as the grapics and sound couldn't be. Darklands and Masters of Magic being two of my favorites in the rpg genre games for dos.
I know that RPG's usually refer to humanoid types dashing around improving stats and upgrading weaponry but if you like sci-fi space games you also fly around improving stats and equipment. Oolite is a great simple space game which is based on pre-frontier Elite and has surpassed it by miles imo, it has many add-ons too. A more complex and gorgeous space sim is vega strike which is stunning. That also has mods which tranceform it into universes based on star trek, wing commander and a couple of others. Raw it looks like Freelancer 2010 might have looked had the Freelancer team kept going. Very big game which uses the celestia data base on our own galaxy as the game universe...huge.
If you search for rpg in the repositories or playdeb you will find a lot of results. The list is too long for a post. There are a lot and I hope you find one you like.

mentioned final fantasy and golden sun, which are classified as JRPG's...more of the eastern style than the WoW, guild wars, dungeons and dragons variety of western rpg.

Sorry, Im more familiar with the western style rpg's, but for my money, the original neverwinter nights is far and away the best linux native rpg. Huge game, massive user created content, mmorpg like persistant worlds. Old game that runs great on older hardware. The one problem is that you mentioned some party based games, and NWN only allows 1 or 2 additional party members (depending on the expansion). Still, for $20USD for the diamond addition which includes the original game, plus two expansions, and some premium level packs, its an amazing deal.

If your still looking at western style rpg's, emulation might be your best bet, those games tend to dominate on consoles. Maybe a used psp or ps2 and a quick browse of the used section in gamestop would be in order.

If you are looking for console-style western RPGs, the OHRRPGCE has a ton of them. The engine is here: http://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/archive/debian/ohrrpgce_2010.02.08.ypsiliform+2-3379_i386.deb

and the games are here: http://hamsterrepublic.com/ohrrpgce/index.php/Games.html

Most of the games are packaged in zip files that include a windows exe, but you can just ignore/delete that. All you need is the .rpg file.

I know this is an old thread but I couldn't help recommending Darklands. I'm new to Wine - I assume you can run DOS games on it?
