Ok, I don't know which exe to pick, Should I install steam and just download the game through there? Or Is there a way I can just install it using my CD's?

the easiest way is to install steam using steam.exe.
once thats finished login allow it to carry out all the updates it needs (that may take awhile). Once done log in and install HL2 and Cs:source.
otherwise it can be a nightmare. This way is still time consuming as you are downloading the game over the steam network, but at least it works almost everytime without failure.

I haven't had a problem installing HL2 from the 5 CDs I have, yes it is a hassle though. :) I then bought DOD:S the other day and installed that from the DVD and that worked fine also, just latched onto my install like it should.
