The other day I downloaded and installed Penumbra Overture, and was

over joyous to start playing such an awesome looking game.

My problem hit me when I started a new game. The menus and

cut scenes were all perfect, etc. but when I hit new game and

finished that cutscene, I have a blank screen. I can see the cursor

when it goes over something (the eye to examine or the hand to pick

up) and I can hear footsteps when I move around etc. But the screen

is blank other than that! I really want to play this game, so can

someone tell me what they think might be the problem? I think it

might be a problem with openAL, do I need to install it for linux

like I know you do on windows? The setup didn't have an option for

that, an I really hope it's not my hardware causing the problem...

Also, I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic). Thanks in advance :)

First check that your Video Card drivers are installed (for Nvidia and AMD/ATI use their proprietary drivers from their website OR the ones that come with Ubuntu).

If you are using Ubuntu 64-bit you need to install the 32-bit libs (but that doesn't seems to be the case here).

Also you can change the Gamma/brightness from the options menu, the game is very dark by default, so you will need to close all light sources inside your room, they might reflect the monitor and make the game hardly visible.
