Generic video driver switch for installation?

I tried installing 9.10 on my computer with an Nvidia Geforce 6800 but the screen just gets all garbled. It was suggested to me that there might be a switch I could use to force a generic driver - any ideas?

Basically a bump.
Is there anyone here who knows the answer to this question?
I don't have the luxury of choosing my hardware. It is what it is. so I have to deal with it.
The video card is an Nvidia Geforce 6800
It is in a Dell Dimension 8400

I currently have Fedora core 12 installed but discovered on another computer that I prefer Ubuntu.

So any help would be greatly appreciated.
