Folder Display Problem

Perhaps this is a more appropriate section of the forum to post this under.

So, when I try to open ANYTHING up under "Places" (Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Music, etc), all that happens is that I will see a window tab appear at the bottom of the screen for a short while while the pointer indicates that it is loading, and then nothing. Nothing opens. I can access files in those folders via the terminal, but not through the tabs.

Any ideas? I'm stumped.

I know this seems silly, but have you tried logging out and logging back in again? Since you can access the files through the terminal, it sounds like a problem with your display environment.
