Greetings!
I`m quite newbie to Ubuntu and Linux in general so please forgive me if I ask stupid questions.
I have tried for a period Ubuntu 9.04 and it worked quite well, but after I upgraded to 9.10 the sound vanished.
So I switched to Kubuntu 9.10 where the sound works great with ALSA.
My problem would be that I upgraded to KDE 4.4.1 (used the synaptic and updates) and after I restarted the pc I had to panels, the one of the kde 4.3.5 and one for 4.4.1. Does this mean, that I have both now?
The startup time of the KDE also slowed quite noticeably (+6-7 seconds).
Is there any way to make a "cleanup" sometimes to delete/uninstall the components that you need. (package manager...i know, but there are so many numbers, that I can`t figure out what there are exactly).
+1. where could i find any material regarding the folder structure of Linux. ex. what contains the /var folder, /user folder etc.?
Thank you very much for your time and sorry about my english.
Best regards.
