Good news to me, I was going to try and install Second Life in wine, when I discovered they have a client for linux \\:D/
Its only in Alpha right now, but with a few minor tweaks it runs great.

Just make sure you extract it using the command line, or at least make sure that your not using a program that will remove empty directories, as there are some in the archive that are needed.. seems to be causing allot of problems.

Any way, here is the link:

If you don't what Second Life is, its pretty much an open ended world, with a built in object editor, and the ability to script actions and the such. The game IS open ended, as such, there is allot of "mature" content, as is not suitable for any one under 18, but don't get the wrong idea :-k , its an amazingly vast and fantastic universe, that is ever expanding and full of every thing you can imagine. Its really some thing to see.

Its a free download, and you can get a free trial account to mess around with, and if you like it, you can buy a life time membership for about ten bucks. Not to bad :)

I'm erthian lamington on there, if you're a n00b and have any questions.

Isn't that the MMO where the in-game currency is aquired by buying it with real money, and that you can exchange back into real dollars?

If you are a paying subscriber, you get a weekly allowance from Linden Labs. Otherwise Linden Labs does run a market place where you can buy and sell Linden dollars using real life money.

Most MMOs have some form of real life money trade behind it, but Linden Labs supports the trade in Second Life, where as other games don't. In some games its necessary to keep the practice down, in Second Life, its helpful.

You can easily play the game with out spending any real money, and if your mildly amused by it, you will probably end up spending about $10 to upgrade your account.

On the other hand, a friend of mine spends allot of freakin time playing, and she makes over a hundred dollars a month (after she pays out her fees for land and such) in real life money.

So far the only real problem I have run into is that you cant use ALT key, which is kinda crucial.. but i think there will be a fix out with 1.9 on wednesday

If any one is playing, and noticed that 1.8.4 wont load, here is your answer (http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?t=91159). It seems that 1.9 should be out with in the next week...

hey I really want to join SL, but after I bunzip2, and untarred it I get the error: This can be because you somehow have multiple copies running, or your system incorrectly thinks a file is open. If this message persists, restart your computer and try again. If it continues to persist, you may need to completely uninstall Second Life and reinstall it.

I'm not running it, I (don't know if I needed to) opened all permissions,

at the start of running 'sh secondlife' I get 'warning LLDir_Linux not fully implemented'

thanks in advance!
