I have been trying to improve the default Dapper theme by using the Clearlooks-4Humans colours:

I am having a problem though, I can't get some dialogue windows to use the bg colour: #EFEBE7, instead they show up white.

Maybe this theme will catch the attention of the developers, Mark if your out there, orange is too loud!

I have attached the theme below for anyone that wants to help.

what dialog windows? ...because all mine are fine and showing the color you want. That was a prob with ubuntulooks-0.9.2 but not with the latest 0.9.5. Do you have the latest?

Opps... You're right BVC! The new version of Ubuntulooks does fix it! :)

I don't like the color, so does it make it wrong as well? Orange is not too loud, it is as suitable as a highlight color as everything else. It would be too loud if we'd use it as the window background color or anything like that... People will never agree on one true colorscheme (and the colors look different on almost every screen anyway), but luckily they are easy to change. I'm sure we'll be swarmed with ubuntulooks colorschemes as soon as or even before Dapper is getting released, so everyone will certainly find something that suits them.

The other thing I would like to see is Tango icons used everywhere (Gaim, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc.). I think the default Tango theme is great but Ubuntu needs a brown folder icon.

I agree, Ubuntu needs a variety of default colour schemes based on this engine, even Apple gives their users two choices, Aqua and Graphite, and Apple is not one for choice. ;)

The problem with brown is that it requires all three of the pixel colours to be extremely accurate, and every monitor is different. I still think that Ubuntu should use brown for the default theme because blue is the cliche colour of computer UIs, and brown is unique to Ubuntu.

yes, well didn't the old, original Human brown themes cause just as much of an uproar? I hated them, but eventually loved them.

I think it would be great to offer a choice. Why only one? ...and why not be the first distro to provide such a great choice?

Well that could be an interesting approach, but it would be a lot of work to do this properly. Probably too much for Dapper, considering that not even the default theme is done yet. But some alternate Gtk colorschemes should be feasable, just like previous Ubuntu releases also came with some different Clearlooks colorschemes (I think).
