Hello everyone,

We are so glad to announce that a new football game for Linux Operating Systems, namely Linux Evolution Soccer I, is coming soon brought to you by our team, Kontrpiye.
It is the first version of our graduation project in the Department of Computer Engineering at Middle East Technical University [1].

You can find detailed information about LES from our company's web site [2]. Moreover you can get more technical information about the game from the blog of the game [3].

Please do not hesitate to share your comments with us any time you like via e-mail [4].

The first version of Linux Evolution Soccer is planned to be ready to be downloaded on 20th April (or so). You will get more detailed announcements through this thread, source-forge page of the game(being prepared), and the website of our company. Also the whole project will become open source after 10th of June, and if you are willing to become a member of the developer team after that date, please let us know.

Sincerely,
Kontrpiye

Hey 5dolla, if you'd wanna compare Fifa'10 and LES I think you woulda noticed that LES is free in the first place, plus it is to become open source in like three months.
As far as I know you have to buy Fifa'10 to get to install and play it on your computer. I assure you it is not so affordable because of the price in many countries.
Now I'll quote a part from the website as for the motivation of ours:

Linux users have been suffering from the undeniable fact that there is no such a tolerable football game, actually any tolerable game running on Linux operating systems for years. It is also a fact that there are so many Linux users expecting a game to be developed for them to be able to run on their Linux operating systems. What we are on our way to do is to supply this demand of this community. The market research we conducted proved this very distinctly, actually proved what we already knew for ourselves. Big companies producing games do not intend to do this for several reasons. We imagine they would not want to just pass their highly sophisticated, invested of huge-budget plus open source games to linux users in peace. We also aim to make sure people notice that they can play some free and cool game on some free and cooler operating system.
Via LES, they could feel like trying Linux and LES obviously. Many computer gamers are not aware the existence of Linux, and we think they need to discover it.

Briefly, we wanna see more Linux users by passing them a free and open source game.

I know player names needs special contracts or so. How do you solve this? By having imaginary football players, like John Doe the 23rd or something?

Looking forward to trying your project! :D

Hey, Arthur. You are right on that, one cannot just use player names as they are.
It sucks big time when you wanna see Messi out there, but you get Mersi or something. What you gonna do about it :)

Fortunately, some sort of access to the database will be present in the final package.
I mean you gonna get kinda editor and be able to change stuff ;) So no worries.
