cinelerra, as kaamos mentions, is quite a heavy app for professional users.

Jahshaka (http://www.jahshaka.org/) is pretty good - try it out.
Kino is in the repos, and is a good, if not basic, video editing package. ;)

too bad that VirtualDub works only for Windows. I wonder if the creator has any plans to make a port for Linux. I wonder too if the same will ever happen for VirtualDubMod.

Oh, I almost forgot!! There is an ongoing project called Jahshaka. It's cross platform and GPL. Here's the link: http://www.jahshaka.org/

Diva (http://www.diva-project.org/wiki/Main_Page) is a Summer of Code project written in Mono, looking very promising. There's been no news from the developer since 28th of November, and I haven't seen any recent SVN checkins either, so for all I know, development may have halted or stopped completely. :(

No it hasn't , they have released 0.1 and as i Understand it, Google is supporting the developper in his work.
It seems that we'll get sooner or later a simple video editor for Gnome.

AviDemux, available in the repos, won't work in win though.

Well i wont ever admit i'm wrong so how should we do this?

The disclamer is in my sig and in my name, yes, i AM insane, and i'll rape your kitten to make you agree with me!

I wonder how it works with W though since 95% of the software used to run it does not have a non-licenced windows pot.

Either way, i like it, i use it, i developed parts of it, and i'll recommend it...

All in all it is not a fair comparison, besides i could run that on a split core thin client setup...

And no, the clients does not even have to have an os installed, i did that part of the program so i should know.
