I have upgraded my ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04.
With the upgrade of ubuntu i didn't have any problems

after a reboot, ubuntu doesn't start up.
It hangs on a black screen with the message :
ubuntu init: plymouth main process (250) killed by SEGV signal

I have a Dell optiplex GX620 with 1 harddisk of 80 gig.

I am a totally newbie and need some help to solve this problem.

Can anyone help ??

Did you try hitting the Enter key a couple of times?
It works for me

noop.

It comes with the ubuntu logo and a line "waiting for /media/sdb1 [SM]"
when i hit the ESC button and enter
the line "ubuntu init: plymouth main process (250) killed by SEGV signal" appears on the screen

Try Alt+Sysrq+K all at the same time and see that gets you to the login screen.

Good Luck
