The forums are totally messy. Change software or clean them up. Somewhere a post said there is a HOWTO forum... but it cannot be found using links from the frontpage. There are tons of information displayed that is of no interest to the average user. I couldn't care less about what other users are online... remove that info, it is only confusing. I could go on... but you get the point, and you are not going to do anything about it anways, right?

I think the software is really good here. Why hide info? Is it really that hard to scroll? :)

Clean up your attitude a bit first, before insisting that this is crap. This is standard vBullettin software used by thousands of forums.
The Online Users may be of no interest to you, but they do interest other people. And it is at the bottom, not at your face.
Also, there is a link to the howtos on the front page : Customization Tips & Tricks (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=100)

Change your attitude and discuss the matter in a kinder manner and you are likely to be heard. It's not the complaint that is irksome, but the manner in which you so proudly and rudely make it that will probably cause your issue to be ignored entirely.
2) The only exception to #1 that I generally see in life is when a person has already established a good relationship with the one they are complaining to. For example, "Oh, well, jjenkov is having a bad day today. It's not like him to be so rude, but maybe he has a point." You have 2 beans...see what I'm saying?

I like that info there. I can know who is online.
Remove your attitude, it is only annoying.

You may find that the use of these little words changes so much in your life.

I do think he may have a bit of a point on one thing, though, in regards to the "HOW TO:" thing. It's not too horribly obivous to new users that the "Customization..." forums is the "How To:" forum.
The rest of his post, he needs to lighten up.

jjenkov most asuradly has a point and these wounded childern need to go see a consolor to help them with reality.
The truth is that the site is a mess to nagigate.
The names and old sections need to be on seperate pages - who cares about old distros 24x 7 on every refresh ? Who cares about development when your trying to get a breezy fix.
And the name list is just wasted band width and here they are asking for funds about more band width.
This is about the 10th post where someone says something straight out and we have the feely touchy senitive kiddies whack the op.
Go see a docoter if you don't feel like you are being loved the way you want to be loved, but stop with the denial of the truth crys. sheesh The site is a mess.

I said his point wasn't going to be listened to with so much attitude interfering with the transmission of meaning. It's as if I was saying he was screaming so loud I couldn't hear a word he said.
BTW, anyone who knows me will vouch for the fact I am in no way a "feely touchy senitive kiddie" who tends to "whack the op" or anyone else.

One of the great thing about these forums is their general friendliness.
There are plenty of Linux forums that have no regard for politeness or friendliness. You can go there if you want. You can go anywhere you'd like.
The only people who have tough lessons to learn here are those who believe that they're entitled to be listened to when being rude. Yes, you may have valid points, even if you're rude. You can still have those same valid points if you're polite, too, and people will be more likely to listen to them.

EDIT: I found a way to include it. :)

I would be open to suggestions on improving the layout of the forum if anyone has suggestions please outline them in a detailed post. There is always room for improvement.

Somewhere a post said there is a HOWTO forum... but it cannot be found using links from the frontpage.Well, I know it's not the first time this is brought up, but I'm still of the opinion that the name "Customization Tips & Tricks" doesn't fit. The first time I visited the forum I didn't expect any guides or howtos behind that name either, but rather threads about modifying Gnome, screenshot galleries, etc.
I hope that was detailed enough. : )

I must say I agree with you. A seperate section titled : Howtos wouldn't be bad.

I would like to say that I agree with the above post too. I think it would be really nice to see a Howto section in the forums. "Customization tips and tricks" can easily give someone an idea that it is all about customizing your desktop etc. I know all it takes is just a click to see what is in it. But a Simple "how-to forum" might be more meaningful and an easy find for the new user.
Once again, I am not saying I dont like the current style. Im just trying to put some thoughts I had about this subject.
Thanks guys.
