Hey guys, I am new to Ubuntu, and I have no internet connection. I am running dual boot windows XP and ubuntu. The card works fine in windows, but doesn't work at all in Ubuntu. This is the card I am using Realtek rtl8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet Nic. I am using Ubuntu 8.10, codename intrepid. I hate windows because of the viruses I contract everyday, so I decided to use Ubuntu, but this does no good without networking. Please help me so I can get online. What I do now? It is an onboard LAN card, cable is plugged in a green light is on, ubuntu just doesn't recognize it.

I've just got my Ubuntu working yesterday. I used Ubuntu 9.10 but I think the problem are probably the same since my laptop also uses Realtek 8139.

Before you go that route, perhaps you should try a bit of troubleshooting:
