A very old thread was brought back from the dead ("thread necromancy" as the poster phrased it) in the Community Chat section, but in order to attract attention from the group that would be most effected, I decided to post this with a link to it: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=65383&page=4

Post #32 (the second one on that page) is where the new discussion starts, and I just wanted to bring this to the attention of the people here in the gaming forums. For feedback, comments, suggestions, etc., I suggest that they be left in the linked thread.

P.S. I am creating this same thread in both the Ubuntu and Kubuntu Gaming sections for people who may only visit one or the other. Mods, please don't look at this as cross-posting as it's not a question that I want answered and I'm asking people to post in the linked thread as to not create multiple discussions, but this is also a great example of why a single gaming section might be a good idea.

Just gonna voice my opinion for a unified gaming forum. Personally, I never have even been in the kubuntu gaming forum, but his the ubuntu gaming one regularly. Can't say much on advanced game development, though in the other thread dv_ seemed to be making some good points. Unfortunatly, my programming knowledge in c++ gets me to pointers, at that point I tend to curl up in a ball and weep. GUI program development was never my friend (a pathetic attempt at using fltk is the furthest i've gone), and i never got to the point of using opengl. That being said, if the set of tools for game development that are needed do not exist, how does iD do it? I presume they got their team good with using the console to do everything and have some system to help with dependancy hell, but does anyone know forsure?

I made a dedicated thread to this idea (the development platform, not the unified game sections  )located here: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=801687#post801687

If anyone would like to leave feedback on it, please feel free.

I completely agree on the need for a unified (k)(x)ubuntu gaming forum. Probably we can have a subsection there on game development.

Shoot people who are in school and cheat their way through coding projects. If more than 10% of software developers (ESPECIALLY game developers) actually knew how to write decent code, we'd be in MUCH better off. I'm in Software Engineering and I'm one of the few honest ones with a good mark - and I intend to write games using proper software engineering practice - including portability!
