I'm trying to install Internet Explorer 8 on Ubuntu 9.10 (using this tutorial:http://wine-review.blogspot.com/2009/11/internet-explorer-8-on-linux-with-wine.html ) I had installed IE8 on Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha... of course that had a lot of glitches, but it installed. Now that I'm back on Ubuntu 9.10 it won't install, I run the .exe file and it has an "extracting files" window, then it pops up and says: Setup could not verify the integrity of the files needed for installation.
Make sure the Cryptographic service is running on this computer.

(Screen-shots attached)
I have Wine 1.1.38
Help me! I have no idea what it's talking about! If you need more information just ask.

I really have no idea, but are there certain packages that should be installed first? Could be..

May I ask why you need IE8? Sorry curiosity is kicking :)

Why don't you install a very small stripped down Windows Xp in VirtualBox (using nlite) or Windows FPL?

The only reasons I like IE 8 on WIndows is the virtualization of tabs... The other reason is the tab grouping.. Otherwise, I use firefox.

YOu are missing the subtext. There is not an easy way to install IE8 or IE7 because they don't bring value added to the situation. That would suggest that you will not find alot of people trying it that would be able to in turn help you.

IE 8 does not provide any value in linux because the virtualization that synnergizes with the UAC in Vista/7 does not work. IE8, supposing you could get it to work perfectly MIGHT support tab colors. I'm sure there is a firefox mod [PLENTY] to customize the appearance and behavior of your tabs.

ERGO, considering people using Linux don't like MS's IE, they would not bother going through the trouble to get it running.

I have never heard of it running nearly good...

Use firefox so Websites HAVE to make their sites compliant and work with it. IE sucks.

Moreover, IE has ALWAYS been years behind. When they release a browser, it has features that should have been in the previous browser released 2-4 years ago.

That's my peace.

I understand you see this as "not the answer to your question", but please read between the lines and see what we are really getting at.

Best of luck, either way.

I hate Internet Exploder too (yes... I did mean to put a "d" instead of an "r"). I'm a Firefox user... I hate IE... but I need it for this bot to work, I don't want to have to install windows just for this bot to work. And, like I said, I had installed IE before, so it can work!

The amount of time spent, you could have done as somebody suggested: install Virtual Box... Install Windows... Install IE7/8

problem solved in not much time.

Yeah, that's not very much RAM. You might try it with 384 MB of your RAM for the virtual box. I can confirm both running a Pentium 3 with Windows XP and running fine... I have ALSO ran an Win XP box on Virtual Box with the same amount of RAM... no problems whatsoever. But, I have 2GB of RAM on this computer...

Try it... the longest thing will be installing and patching... You will have to patch all the way up to be able to download IE 7 or IE 8... So I hope you are starting with an Windows XP SP2 disc [i.e. most of the updates already slipstreamed in the CD]

Good luck.

The only Windows install disk I have is Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit.
