Hi all,

I've been thinking of adding some RAM to my lappy since it is having a hard time keeping several apps in memory. Currently I have 256MB and I'm thinking of getting another 512MB. Two questions here.
1. Would the speed up be noticeable?
2. If my motherboard supports only PC2100 (300MHz) and I install PC2700 would this be a problem? I assume it will just not use the higher speed of transmission.

Thanks

Answer to question one is yes there will be a noticeable speed difference because you will not have to access the swap file as often.

The answer to number two is it the motherboard should run higher rated memory at the lower speed since it is already set in the bios. PC 2700 will still work but at the lower speed. I know several people running DDR3200 at DDR 2700 speeds on their old Athlon computers.

I have done something similar to this.. and yes
1.the speed difference is noticable
2.

I have done something very similar to this and I think I can attest to the above!

Yes.

The price of Ram is so low you should consider going to at least a Gig. Still going from 256 to 512 will bring a performance gain.
