The title says it all. I had Ubuntu 9.04, used the in-place upgrade option, and I come back to find Xubuntu 9.10 booted.

Is there any easy way I can revert the changes, or would it just be easier to back everything up and do a clean install of 9.10?

Choose Gnome as session from the loginscreen.
Otherwise try to install "ubuntu-desktop", this will probably reset the Ubuntu-defaults.
