I've been wondering for a long time now. What is the difference between the daily and the daily-live versions on cdimage.ubuntu.com?

"daily-live" contains a daily build of the desktop version, which is a "LiveCD" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_CD)) that can be used standalone or for installation.
"daily" contains a daily build of the alternate version, which is not a LiveCD; it's only for installation.

The are both easy to install. The only tricky part, the first time or two, is if you decided to manually partition the hard drive.

ok. I understand all that but if daily-live does the live function including the installation function way not just have the daily-live only.
The reason i ask is that if you go to the daily section it says it's an oversized image which is a bug. That bug is only for the daily version so why include it at all if it's a bug and the daily-live does the same thing.

also, I have installed both versions in the past and they both install the same way so there is no difference between the desktop version and alternate version whatever that means

Please clarify that

Desktop version = graphical installation of desktop environment
Alternate version = text installation of desktop environment
Server version = text installation + blessedly no graphical nonsense.

I always install the server version myself; and install the graphical bits afterwards. There doesn't seem to be a daily server build though. But why use a daily build anyway, unless you're testing?

ok. I just thought the only graphical installer was the dvd version. I had installed the dvd version a while ago and it worked. Then I tried to install it again and grub2 failed to install so i started using the cd versions. I never paid any attention to seeing if they were graphical or not. Though the cd versions i tested are text
