I had a problem with several hardware on my computer, so I decided to check if the was the fault of the kernel, it really was, so I followed the tutorial at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/how-to-customize-your-ubuntu-kernel/

there was 1 problem, my computer got overheated during the process and shut down (which is why I decided to recompile the kernel), and after that I couldn't find the fragments of the ".deb" file that was supposed to be created and 3 gb disappeared out of my computer.

1) what should I do with the missing 3 gb?
2) is there a way to recompile only a part of the kernel?

Unfortunately, you will have to do the recompile again.
