I'm looking for a pci card with tv-out for a mythtv setup. I'm also interested in making things out of junk (like thin clients and crt-tube TVs. What's a good card with s-video or even rca out? (knoppmyth, mythbuntu, mythdora, I don't care, but please specify what you are using! Thanks!)

Well... If you want to do video out, you could (are you ready for this warface?) buy a scan converter.
Theyre really cheap (about $30usd) and allow you to take VGA out and hook it up to any tv, no matter what the connection!
Ive got one similar to this: http://detail.en.china.cn/provide/detail,1076985660.html
and I have an old box hooked up to a CRT TV :P
I figure its cheaper than a full on video card, i guess.

I Like the idea. But there are cheaper tv-out cards out there on ebay. For instance I bought an Nvidia MX4000 64MB s-video out the other day for $10 (granted, I haven't got it to work yet)

In tom's defense, the converter isn't all that expensive. Even not considering what you can spend on even a midrange video card, 20 or 30 dollars just isn't that much.
You should really consider going with something more powerful. The MX4000 is a lower grade card than mine. Watching TV on it wasn't pleasant by any means, it just worked.

that's cool, if it sucks, it doesn't really work imho. It's just that I'm interested in turning *junk* into working things, so really I'm holding out for FREE. I'm trying to work with kids in my neighborhood to do a salvag/recycle thing to help them build their skills and learn about computers, so the salvage thing is really appealing since they have zero dollars. So I'm interested in knowing what the low-grade stuff is out there that is working for people.

Very cool. I've been looking to do something similar but their are very few computers sitting on the roadside in my area.

LOL mulluysavage + warfacegod. You're going to hate me for this-
My local city council has 'kerbside collection'. Its where people are meant to put out all the old junk they have and council collects it. Its allowed, even encouraged for people to take awy whatever they find (cause that means council spends less picking it up). I've got many computers liek from kerbside, most of which I fixed up and gave away to friends.
