I would like to modify one of the buttons in the shutdown dialog to perform a different action or even add a button.

example: Use hibernate to shutdown and run a script. this would give me the choice to run this action on shutdown or just shutdown the computer.

Is there a configuration file or a way to edit this action?

There might be a way in the Configuration Editor.
